Eighty Eight Volts

Here's a preview of the headlining story in Screw Comics! #3. The first two issues I did grey tones right on the original art work. Recently though, due to variations in materials and scanning capabilities I wasn't sure how the grey tones would look with the type of paper I used. Instead of chancing it and possibly ruining all 61 pages of the original art, I decided to keep the art straight ink and do the greys digitally. Although the work is extremely tedious, the results are OUTSTANDING. Take a look. The name of the story is 'Heavy Duty Judy and the Two PJs'. If you picked up issue #2 then the 'Coming Next Issue' page filled you in. Plus, there's still time to cop issue two! ---------------------------------------->

Quite SHREWd

Okay, truly wrapping up this productive July is this 10 page comic I did for a terrific lil' indie label called Red Stylo. It's part of the next upcoming Shakespeare Shaken compilation, a collection of comics inspired by Shakespeare stories. The story I got to draw was a tale similar to "The Taming of the Shrew". It takes place in an alternative universe where a company is having trouble "taming" a certain female assassin. I was on board to color it and letter it as well, but I ran out of time due to other comic obligations, although I DID color the very first panel, the rainy futuristic cityscape. Dig it!

Landed on a farm with tall, green leafy Trees

You might have caught wind that I was working on an animation project earlier this year. Kept it under wraps for the most part, but because I'm in the market for more animation-related gigs, I compiled this short two and a half minutes of that project showcasing some of the animation techniques I used. It's a kid's program and a lotta fun. The concept is basically a bunch of aliens in the form of question words land on a farm and meet a smart farmer who fills them in on who they are through catchy songs.  Sure, that sounds a lil' weird, but I like weird, and I'm glad I did this project.

The work was commissioned by none other than Houston funk legend Leon Mitchison. He did the music and voice-overs in the above piece, as well as write it. Basically, he just handed me the soundtrack and concepts. Leon Mitchison of Leon Mitchison & the Eastex Freeway Band. Of Mitchitone Records. Of course, I just found this out because I didn't think to Google him at the time. I'm blown away. Check this out. That's him on the sax.

Fuzzgun and Motorcycles

2 Videos for dat-azz! This first one was filmed on location at the (deep breath) 3rd Annual Brooklyn Invitational Custom Motorcycle Show in Brooklyn, NY. I dedicate it to my Pop; he's got a custom bike of his own, you'll see it at the very end! It's the first video I shot with my new Sony Bloggie that I got for my birthday (thanks Boo), so be sure to watch it in HD.

The second video is something I whipped up when I was really digging on some old 16-bit video game music, particularly some old school arcade action a la Knights of the Round, and Aero Fighters II . I was just poking around so I threw those songs together with some anime for some visual splendor. The Akira part works really well and is my favorite. And then I threw in the final boss fight from Sonic 3. Like I said, just playing around. It's fun to upload shit to YouTube without it coming back saying you're infringing on a copyright because of a song.

What? You didn't know I dabbled in collage? It's like making something out of garbage (especially junk mail and advertisements, can you spot 'em?), and I'm fascinated with random rummaging of pop culture.

Screen Test

Dialogue, Layouts, Pencils, Inks, Colors by me. All these, from start to finish, about 3 days.

 

I left the hand-written text because I see enough titles with the sterilized look of computer text. But, I can lay down those computer fonts as well. I also know how to lay books out for print. Having put out a few books myself, I understand how a full comic gets created from start to finish. Attention publishers and editors; this is why you need me on your team. Just sayin'.
