Trial By Fire

The latest on Jobless Jake - His Trial! Now, of all the types of debt one can accumulate, student loan debt is the ONLY type that stays with you 'til the ends of the earth, even after declaring bankruptcy. But if you never manage to find a job they can't garnish wages. When I wrote and drew this I was wondering what they would do if you couldn't pay 'em off; would they come take your stuff like the IRS? Or would they throw you in jail and you pay with your time, like the local law enforcement system? With so many people in similar situations like Jake why hasn't a Student Loan Bailout been a topic of discussion among our government officials? I'm not an economist or anything (it's obvious right?), but wouldn't it stimulate some economic activity if we helped out this new generation of graduates struggling with this type of debt? Seems like if they didn't have this burden to deal with they can move on with their lives and spend that pizza delivery money elsewhere, and get some shit moving. In a country where we (taxpayers) bailout corporate fat-cats who then take a chunk of that money and blow it on a crazy weekend, it would seem to make sense to drop the people's money on the people to help out the people directly. But then that raises more debates, such as 'why are we paying for their college?' etc. etc. And, let's face it. Government officials and representatives don't have student loans to pay back, so how would they benefit from a Student Loan Bailout? Okay, comic time!

Nicotine Fiend

This next Jobless Jake strip is one of my favorites, and would ya believe it - Jake scores an interview! When I wrote this I to parodied a strange and silly TRUTH commercial (I searched for a link but couldn't find it); where an executive is interviewing young fresh college grads to come work for big tobacco, but they decide to not take the job because they are asked to do something against their morals. Well, that's the commercial description, let's get into the comic.

The Job Search Continues

The Jobless Jake marathon continues. As I re-read these old strips I almost forgot how I built up Jake's character. He may be a jobless guy, but he's also a young 20-something man living in today's society. Basically that means he needs to get laid sometime, as we all do. This next strip illustrates how financial dire straits can affect your play among the ladies. It also introduces a supporting character. Get'em Jake!

Stay Jobless

Check it out! In lieu of me quitting my main gig (this weekend is my last) I've decided to repost my old Jobless Jake mini comics. Basically, I came up with Jake as way to express my situation of being fresh outta college with a Bachelor's degree and nowhere to go. Ya struggle to apply for 'jobs', scour the internet, rummage thru any and all of your contacts, all the while the student loan debt collectors blow up your phone ready to get paid. Being a holder of liberal arts degree I often wondered why I got one in the first place. Struggling to pay off a college debt with a job that you didn't even need a degree to get in the first place will make you regret borrowing all that money. In this economy it's actually a very common situation amongst people getting out of college. And with that in mind I present to you the Adventures of Jobless Jake.

1 - The first Jobless Jake comic I drew. This really happened to me.

2 - The pitfalls of surfing for jobs on CraigsList.

3 - I forget where I got this. I think I really heard a bum chanting this.

That's all for now. Stay Tooned!

For the Homies

The updated version of the latest flyer in the Jerry Vision Campaign. Click it to get up close and see the detail!
When Jerry came through and told me the concept, I conjured up images of the Homies characters concocted by barrio legend David Gonzales. Usually when we get down in a brain storm session to we spend hours tossing ideas about possible comedy show concepts, catchy phrases, and silly images. But this show idea came pretty straight forward, and the layout and art followed suite as well. Do a Homies image search and see if you can spot the image I parodied!
Ahh, the very second post in my NEW place. Just playing with it and getting a feel for it and what not. So far I'm really digging the input formats and the simplicity of everything on this Blogger site. I'm used to doing everything the long way; uploading, HTML coding, testing the links and the whole site...enough! Not only that but this site is ideal because it links my youtube, gmail, and other blogs I follow up in one spot. So, this is the very second post in many more to come!
